Keep in mind that modern caravans, are probably fitted with the single 13-pin ISO towing electrical connector, in preference to the two 7-pin connectors.

Re: Temp gauge rises when headlights are on

Noticed this happening recently. The needle goes up by about 3-5mm when the headlights are on. other than that the dashpod works fine. Any thoughts? cheers, shaun The headlamp's electrical load, might be affecting the supply voltage to your instrument panel. Check your dashboard voltmeter , before ...

Re: knackered heat exchanger/ head stud

Before resorting to the drill, try heating the cylinder head with a blowlamp, in the region of the screw-studs. This will expand the amuminium and hopefully will expand it sufficiently, relative the the studs, to loosen them enough to remove, whilst the cylinder head is still hot.

I use 100/80 halogen bulbs in the non halogen headlamps and they are fine. I have done the relay thing of course :ok Aren't those bulbs for off road? It all depends upon the initial registration date (31st March / 1st April 1986 is the critical threshold) of one's vehicle and/or whether the bulbs a...

If one owns a British or European registered, North American specification vehicle, one must replace the original SAE/DOT-standard headlamps, with lamps conforming to the European ECE-standard; of RHD or LHD dipping pattern, as appropriate. This might not be picked-up by an MOT inspector, but it is ...

Re: HEADLIGHTS

The 60/55W H4 quartz-halogen headlamps, have been available as a factory-fitted option, for VW Transporters, since at least 1973 and possibly as early as 1971, so you should find that your existing headlamps' electrical circuit, has been designed with this option in mind. If one has in mind to use h...

Re: Fog lights

If you have the option, it's generally better to have a matched pair of rear foglights, which must be at least 100 mm, from any brake light.

The rear foglight requirement, also applies to trailers manufactured after circa October 1979.

Re: Which headlight bulb - 1985 Transporter

I was going to fit replacement H4 conversion units, £40 a pair, to my 1985 Autosleeper. The guy at Autospares in Bridgwater had some Ring 12v 60/65w bulbs in stock with same fitting as the standard bulbs. They are:- Ring R012 12v 60/65w P45T and cost £5.95 each including vat. I am not sure how good...
