Choke woe!
Evening all, 2.0 A/C headache here... If the electric wire to the right hand carb was disconnected entirely (or broken off in my case) would this be choke "on" or choke "off"? I'm thinking choke on as it would have no link to the thermostat? Its running like a dream at the moment...

Re: help, Aircooled or Surbaru power.
My air-cooled gets about 18mpg on a good run, top end of 70mph (downhill), left the factory with about 70bhp and hasn't got anymore powerful!
Just saying.

Re: Replacing fuel lines
Thanks, mines a 2.0 ac but seems to follow the same principle. I've ordered enough 7mm hose to replace the hard plastic lines, but on inspection, they seem in pretty good shape (reasonably new as well) so they may stay put. Its the lines in the engine bay that I'm most worried about as they are oran...

Re: Rounded sump plug
my sump plug is rounded and stuck in, so I undo the oil strainer when it comes to servicing the van.
I shouldn't think the wynns will do any damage, but I'd want it out as soon as I could get to it?

Re: Anyone reommend good mechanic/garage close to Halifax Hudds?
If Brickwerks are fully booked up, I use Batley MOT centre on halifax road in Batley, Its a bit further afield, but he's a great guy and knows his stuff, but is more Beetle orientated (although he did a nut and bolt rebuild of an air-cooled T23 a few years back)

Replacing fuel lines
I've read the wiki suggesting that 7mm is the way forward, and I've measured whats there currently and it seems to be short lengths of 7mm, some 8mm, some hard plastic hoses (presumably original) some gas hose in the engine bay (cheers for that, I'm sure its perfectly safe! ) and some narrow ...

Re: 2.0 CU Aircooled lost power, help!
not sure how experienced you are working on vehicles like this so apologies if Im teaching you to suck eggs, Start at the fuel tank... make sure there is plenty of fuel in there, put some more in to churn it up a bit (If you are concerned that the "fuel out" hose is blocked, take the hose ...

I've done something really stupid (fuel gauge related)
For reasons best left not discussed, I put a newly charged battery in backwards, and despite the sparks and smell of burning I continued to wire it in. I have accepted that this was ridiculously stupid and now have big + and - painted on and have had the p**s taken by my family quite a lot! Now, to ...

Re: What kind of distances without stopping in your Aircooled?
I've done a lot of long drives in my CU panel van. Mostly I stop every 3-4 hours as my seat isn't comfy, but I did 9 hours once just stopping for fuel as required with no problems. Overheating wise, I keep my dash heaters on, once the heat from those burns my hand then its too hot! Also listen to yo...

Re: wheel carrier
would work on my van! But TBH, if you must move your spare (or in your case, have a neat little tool cupboard) I think they look ace on the back door if you have a roof ladder as well?

2.0A/C not starting
Due to ill health my van has been sat on the road since October not moving. So, today I thought I'd rectify this! I fitted a new battery as the old one was flat, and a bit tired, so figured it'd be £50 well spent to get a decent one in. Tried to start it and the started motor is turning but the engi...
