Best standard height suspension setup?

I'm fed up with the harsh ride on the JK 40mm-lowered kit (which I've had for 4 years). Every bump in Bristol's crappy roads hurts Mrs Pootle's back. I'm going back to standard height. What is the best standard height setup? The van is a daily drive round town plus a 2000 mile annual road trip on th...

Re: Wheel bearings going - do I need to cancel our holiday? :(

Yes it did hold fine and we had two great weeks around Northumberland! I fixed it as soon as we got home. It was a bit tricky to get the drop link out because the suspension is lowered slightly. After removing the wheel, I undid the bolts holding the ball joint in place and carefully lowered the who...

Re: Who would do this?

having seen a 'brand new' Vege unit broken down and seen the state of that and the parts used I certainly wouldn't touch them Really? I never knew that - always thought Vege were supposed to be the good guys. I had a Vege recon unit fitted in 2004 and have had no problems with it. Who ARE the good ...

Much Much less than the RRP.

When are they coming in Simon? Will they be suitable for my 45mm-lowered van?

So that would explain the look on the face of the man at GSF when I asked "Do you sell snowballs? I think they are some kind of clamping thingummy for metal rods".

I can't find a link for the Bilsteins on the Brickwerks website - is Simon still selling them?

Better shocks for 30mm lowered van?

I've got the Just Kampers 30mm lowered springs and the uprated shock absorber kit here: http://tinyurl.com/359gd6z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The ride is too harsh on Bristol's roads - the shocks bottom-out too easily (I have trimmed the bump stops). Can anyone recommen...

Re: Wheel bearings going - do I need to cancel our holiday? :(

I will nearly eat my words about the jubilee but await your return.. :ok mike On your advice the jubilee is not "taking the strain" - it's on the wider part of the droplink. TBH it's not doing much. It's above the undersized gap in the bodging plate, which is tight around the narrow part ...

Re: Wheel bearings going - do I need to cancel our holiday? :(

My garage fitted me in today! Hooray! ... but changing the top ball joint didn't fix the CLUNK ... boo! The ball joint definitely had too much play though. It turns out metalmick8y was right, the CLUNK was due to the faulty drop link. I took the nut, round plate, tube and rubber off the bottom of th...

Re: Wheel bearings going - do I need to cancel our holiday? :(

Roll bar drop link, has the threaded part broken off.? No, the bottom of the drop link is still there. I think there's usually a little ridge that keeps the disc in place, but it has corroded away. I'm going to try and bodge it with a hose clip tomorrow. Top ball joint , how much play, It would see...

Found the cause... and another problem!

OK I think I've found out what's causing the knocking in the driver's side front wheel... and another problem. There's play in the upper ball joint on the driver's side - circled red below. But look at the link between the anti-roll bar and the radius rod mounting (circled green ) - the top retainin...

Wheel bearings going - do I need to cancel our holiday? :(

There's been an occasional "clunk" from the front when turning for a while and today Mrs Pootle noticed that it seemed a lot worse. Sure enough, on turning there is a definite loud CLUNK! If I slowly slalom the van down the road I hear it every turn. I got out and wobbled the wheels and th...

Re: carburetter

I will have a rethink thanks for the advise lads. Geoff I regret swapping my Pierburg 2E3 for a Weber 34 DAT. Good acceleration, but thirsty and very poor cold running. And believe me, I have spent a lot of time and money trying to tweak it right. Speak to this chap, he specialises in rebuilding Pi...
