Hi,
Came across this info. Might help someone.
Testing Hall Sender switching function.
Remove coil wire from centre of distributor and connect it to earth with a wire.
Peel back the rubber sleeve on the connector housing on the side of the dist.and connect a LED test light between the centre terminal and the positive(+) battery terminal.
Actuate the starter and the LED should flicker. No flicker = faulty hall sender.
I have not tried this and do not know why/if it has to be an LED test light or if you can use a multi meter. Perhaps someone can enlighten.
