Correct tyre size for alloy
Hi to all, my name is Bryan and new to this club as of today, I have a question for those that have more knowledge than myself on Tyre sizes and makes. The other day I purchased Empi 911 17"alloys (JK) pcd of 5x112, I am at the moment thinking of putting car tyres on, for the front 225/45/17 and rear 235/45/17, if the size is good please advise on what tyre make would be suitable. If I have got it completely wrong please advise on what size and make I should use. I would still prefer a wider size for the rear. Thanks and await your answers.

My insurance company knows about the change to aftermarket alloys, they never questioned tyres, but I still need to know what size and make should I purchase. The camper was originally a panel van then converted to a camper but not fully kitted out so there is a good weight difference.

Hi Bryan

Although your insurance company may not have questioned you about the tyres, you can be sure they, and the police will if you have any sort of road traffic accident. You could even be prosecuted. This is far from the first time this has come up on here. Do yourself a favour, and the other road users you might kill, buy VAN tyres NOT car ones

OK, "correctly load rated tyres" does sound better than "van tyres"
Then we should help ols167 (name ?) by quoting the correct minimum load rating, which is of course =

Probably because 97 is the correct load index according to VW.

Tyres weight-rated for a Velle may not be suitable for a Fat Boi camper. I run commercials because they are what should be on the van .... I would suggest you do not take chances with your insurance
