Coolant Leaks

Post by danreimo »

I have got a persistent little leak coming from my engine. I have recently had the water pump changed and just replaced all the hoses, from the Water pump to Oil Cooler etc. But the little drip is still there. It looks like it is coming from the water jacket around the left cylinder. Now I was thinking of getting some Holts Rad Leak to see if that stops it. Has anyone used this before as I do not want to ruin the engine by adding it to the system and just having it float around having not done the job.

It's horrible stuff. Don't.

The only time that bodge-goop has a place is when you're trying to coax an extra year out of some disposable heap of a car that's near death. If it's something you want to keep, then sort it properly. Otherwise, you'll only mask umpteen small leaks until something becomes unignorable. At that point, you'll fix one thing properly, change the coolant, and the goop will be diluted and stop working. At that point, you'll find those umpteen small leaks again.

I'd love to get hold of the muppet that used it in my old Saab. For the sake of a cracked £40 header tank, I replaced almost the entire cooling system, including water pump and eventually head gasket.
