Engine ID help ?

Post by doivey »

Hey there.

Would anyone be able to help me ID an engine ?

I have just recently bought this van but have no idea what the engine is, a watercooled conversion 1.6 diesel. Is there any way I can find out where it has come from ( the paper work on this subject is a little thin).

Any idea where I could look on the engine to find any serial number or anything ? Or are you clever enough to ID it off hand ?

Thanks

Dave

Standard 1.6 CS engine by the look of it.
What makes you say it is a conversion?

Like you say.....I'm no diesel expert but that looks pretty stock to me as in...original.
Definately early Diesel (with the ring of nuts around the cam box) battery box and layout don't look like a conversion but I do know from the original thread that the owners was told it was converted from a 1.9 wasserboxer?

Well my concern ? question is that it is a 1981 registered van. From what I gather I thought they were still only producing Aircooled vans in this period ? Although I could well be wrong.

Unless when the number plate exchange to UK was made they didnt have the correct information to hand ? Therefore infact it could be a later produced van ?

Looks like a stock early diesel to me.
