oil leak

Post by stephen t25 »

Hi all, i have 1.9 TDI 1z lump in my van and after a 500mile round trip last weekend i noticed a small oil patch on the road. Upon inspection i noticed an oil patch under my charge cooler on the left hand side battery tray area behind the the light cluster. The van seems to drive ok with no loss of power.

Any ideas what this might be would be very much appeciated. :ok

Hello,

it's normal to have some oil in the intercooler and induction system - the pcv on top of the engine vents oily gasses back through to the intake manifold, but not normal to have it leak. I would suspect you have a boost leak too if it's leaking oil from the intercooler. I'd check you clamps around that area.

More importantly if the intercooler is seriously full of oil then I'd check your turbo seals. If it's really oily then you risk runaway which you don't want. I'd say it's a good time to clean it all out including your manifold.

Hi, thanks for the info, i thought i would mention that just before my journey i slipped a clip on the charge cooler at the manifold end for about 10mins driving and lots of black smoke ect untill i re fixed it and then it did a 250mile pulling like a train.
I will remove the charger cooler and clean, anything i should know...tips etc would be very welcome :ok
