First time posted from Northern Ireland and hope someone could help. I have a 1983 diesel Joker. A German import that was originally petrol but diesel engine fitted in Germany around early 90’s.
Problem 1
I’ve had the van for about a year and recently the alternator belt broke. In changing it I realised that the top pulley of the alternator isn’t in line with the lower pulley suggesting that it’s the wrong alternator. Unfortunately you can’t see all that well in the pictures, but the neck for the pulley seems to hang down slightly putting the pulley at an angle. Also there seems to be an additional spacer added to the long bolt to make it fit. Does anyone know what the actual alternator should be as obviously the belt won’t last long like that!? Also what is the red cable indicated? It doesn’t seem to go anywhere! Also the pulley below doesn’t have any spacers to tighten the belt which I think it should have?
Problem 2
At first use after fitting the belt, the fuse blew on the air blower. I changed the fuse but it blew again immediately. Is it possible that, say, a tighter alternator belt is making the air blower bust the fuse?
Hope this isn’t too much at one go?

Re: Alternator problem
Hello,
I'm not sure I can help that much I'm afraid, but it'd be really helpful to know your V-belt setup - folk here will no doubt know if it's right or not - it might well be incorrect. As far as I know for the JX the alternator belt adjustment is the alternator itself - I can't tell from the pictures quite how it's setup. Does the van have power steering or AC that would require an extra belt? It'd be good to see the crank pulley too. The alternator looks like a 65a alternator - does it have a part number on it?
The blue wire is the exiter wire - if there's a green one it'll be for the rev counter - the fat ones are the battery/starter cables - someone at some point may have stolen a +12v or spliced the exciter wire for some reason. A bit difficult to say what the red wire does from here.
Sorry not to be more help
Ewen

Re: Alternator problem
Hi mate,
Not quite sure what to say on the alignment, but can you see what is causing the alternator to not sit staright? Obviously if it's the wrong one for the engine then maybe sourcing the correct part will cure it.
As for the fuse, i'd say this is a coincidence. Is the fuse the correct ampage for the circuit? If so, then you need to track back through the circuit to find the short (broken or damaged wire) and check the unit it's powering for faults (Eg, heater motor seized causing fuse to blow etc...)

It's not rust, they're heat blisters....
