Does anyone recognise this engine plate I found under my tinware? I assume its a recon, as the original CU number has been ground off?

Similar to the John Deere logo, out of a large lawn mower?

Sorry couldn't resist, I think you are correct with Vege.
Ring them up they should be able to tell you when it was remanufactured.
