Will this TD engine do ?

Post by ringo »

Im starting to get my head around replacing my 1.7 diesel engine. Its tired. A recon one from JK is about £1650 -but to be honest if im going to change it i would want a turbo.

So, im trying to get a feel for what i will need to buy when i get some money together - and get a feel for what is and not a bargain.

Is this any good ?

Thanks

Ringo

Looks like a TDI lump, not AAZ - that means plenty more electronics which means you'd need the complete lot from one car.

If I were going for that engine, I'd want to see it running, at temperature, with a closed cooling system and I'd want the opportunity to take out the complete lump and electrics myself (at leisure), otherwise you might wind up with a very large paperweight.

I'd also say if you shop around - or wait around for the right one then you will get a better deal than that...seems alot for a 130k engine....

Thanks guys.

I was thinking of a AAZ for simplicity and maybe doing it myself for a winter project. Having said that, i want to get it done properly and for it to not take too long.

For an AAZ am i looking for early 90's vw's seats and audi's ?

This one is a skoda - don't think its a turbo though.

Im kind of liking the skoda idea - cheap as chips to get a running vehicle that its easier to tell if the engine is ok.

Is it the AAZ ?

Thanks

Well it'd be an easier conversion, as it's a non-turbo to non-turbo swap.

Only thing is... you're not going to get anywhere near the power increase that you'd get with an AAZ.

Louey has done this conversion on his van - ask him what it's like.

Im not bothering then - i might as well get the max benefit for the effort and get the turbo.

Thanks...
