Gas tank cover for a Westy

Post by chrisevans »

Is this an accessory or did they have them as standard to protect the connections etc?

And when they are missing it is usually because they were left down by accident and so were ripped off.

there was a guy on here a while back who made aluminium copies...very nice they were.

Guy who made the metal covers (not sure if they were aluminium so you would need to check) is Harold English.

"Left down"? Hinges?

Mine ('88) just removes. There's a tongue near the bottom for a padlock, and it fits over a little ledge thing on top, then secures with a wing nut through the middle. Pain in the backside to get off and on, but no sign of any hinge fitment. Must be original, because it's got a Westfalia gas pressure sticker on the inside.

Hi, i had ordered a cover through Harold, and after commincation stopped between us, i took the plunge to ring yesterday and spoke to his wife, he passed away on Monday. She said she would take my details and get back to me, but under the circumstances I said I would ring back.
Sad times, didnt know him but very sad none the less.

Neil , I was going to get a few made up by my neighbour , but if your going to start doing them then go ferrit mate .
We were looking at around the £60 mark , Black powder coated (and for a few £'s more coded to your van) locks etc , and were even looking at Stainless ones for a ££'s more .

I cancelled my order from Harold, as I didnt think that his wife would be up to sorting out his deliveries, as she didnt even have access to his emails.
I would be up for one Mark for the £60 quoted
