Updated my Propex with a 7 day timer?

Being a cheapstake (propex ones are abuot £70) are there any alternative 7 day timers that can be used with a propex?

You can use pretty much any thermostatic timer. It's basically just an on off switch with a timer on it so you can make pretty much anything compatible with 12v work.

I don't see why either of them wouldn't work fine.

I bought a propex from a club member for a friend of mine and it came with a timer very similar to the one in the first link. He wired it into his van no problem and it works just fine.

Does the timer need to be thermostatic?

I always assumed that it's wired between the original thermostat control and the heater unit?

Would the timer in the first link replace the original propex thermostat dial unit?

As far as I'm aware yes its just a straight replacement for the original thermostatic switch. I've never seen a timer and switch wired seperately. I'm certainly no expert and can only comment on my very limited experience. But why would you want a seperate timer and thermostat? I'm sure, as with most things, it's possible but it would make more sense to just replace the thermostatic switch with a thermostatic timer.

I just asked because the adverts for the propex 7 day timer say "THIS UNIT IS WIRED IN WITH THE THERMOSTAT"

most programmable thermostats now are just a couple of AA batteries which switch a set of 0v contacts. I use the Drayton ones but honeywell are just as good. They would work perfectly.

The thing is the propex HS2000 has the following wires

+ Red
- Black
On - Orange
LED - White
Vent - Green

Not sure how the last 3 wires affect the hearter so I wouldn't know how to wire in a programmable thermostat anyway

Maybe that's why the propex timer is fitted inbetween the heater and the original dial thermostat so that the cold fan still works as does the led (which I assume also tell of any faults?)

As I need to keep the propex thermostat/control switch wired in (as it's the diagnostic box too) I assume I'd just fit this to the red + wire before the propex thermostat/control box?

I've got this http://www.ebay.de/itm/12V-DIGITALE-ZEI ... 27b921cbd9 in between the Propex thermostat and the Propex.
The only downside is that it switches off without letting the Propex do it's cool down period.

Is that not good cutting off the cooling down period?

I thought it would wire in before the propex thermostat otherwise there would be power to the thermostat all the time (ie left switched in the on position)

I've come up with an fairly cheap alternative (£20) to the Propex 7 day timer that costs £70+

I think it will work

I'm going to wire in a battery powered Tower Eco ET2 programmable thermostat so that I can accurately set the temperature in the van rather than use the current ad-hoc dial thermostat that came with the heater

The Eco ET2 thermostat is available for just less than £20 delivered
