AAZ Manifold/Turbo confusion

Post by Iceworx »

Morning chaps,

I'm in the middle of putting the AAZ in the van at the moment. However, as I bought the engine a good while ago, as a bare unit, and only having a CS at the moment, I've hit a stumbling block.

I've got two exhaust manifolds, both pictured.

1 seems to be the logical choice, as the Brickwerks oil feed lines up, so does the oil return. However, with this in place, I cant seem to get the pipe work for the Turbo-to-inlet anywhere near! I've got all the pipework from a JX apparantly?

Second manifold (2) puts the Turbo on top, but would foul the mount?

The turbo i've got is a Garrett K14, I was told this was the JX unit?

Finally, the pipe from the compressor housing to actuator, is a solid pre-formed on. Is it necessary to replace this to re-index the compressor housing to align with inlet?

The blower:

Any info would be a huge help!

Cheers

Chris

You have the AAZ inlet manifold fitted which won't allow for the re-use of the JX pipe work.

I posted this during my conversion which you may find helpfull - https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=70834" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I reused the JX inlet having had it welded up and the ports ground to match the AAZ ports. All the JX stuff fits and works well.

As an aside I see you are looking for an AAZ alternator; I also reused the JX pulleys and alternator. This ensured that the rev counter worked as it should with no need for adjustments.

Are you using the JX or the AAZ turbo? If using the AAZ turbo, it needs re-indexing (the two halfs loosening and the air inlet pipe turned so it faces upwards) and then you need to buy some silicon (i had to but two L pieces and a joint IIRC) to join them up - the JX silicon wont fit.

I think you are going for the easiest setup. However, if i as doing it again i would get a JX inlet manifold modified (futbus Dave does a really nice JX/AAZ hybrid i believe) so you can fit the standard JX air filter box.

I also have a K&N cone filter (a huge one) that i used before i went to the JX setup - do you need that?

...or use the AAZ inlet manifold as it is, and add an intercooler, in which case the position of the inlet port on the manifold is less of an issue, you can route the cooled air from the intercooler in thru the top by selecting suitable hoses.

..or, use the AAZ manifold, blank off the top port, cut a hole in the side and have a flat plat tigged, on so you can mount the JX inlet port there, and use the JX pressure pipe.
