Trouble engaging gears

Hi all, I have a problem with my 1.7d 4 speed, it is very difficult to engage, rev, 1st and 2nd when the engine is running but seems easier when engine is cut off to engage them....i recently repaired the gear linkage as it broke off at the fork at the bottom of the gear lever....don't know if it will be down to this as it was relatively hard to engage them before this happened....any advice would be much appreciated...cheers...Gareth

Hi, the bite point is on the floor, literally I did think about the clutch not being adjusted right, as when you give a little blip of throttle between gear changes it's a lot smoother... Also I noticed when stationary even when my foot is pushing pedal through the floor it still wants to creep.

could be a slave issue but that's pointing at clutch/clutch forks
check the slave cylinder isn't leaking fluid and if possible get someone to observe movement at clutch lever (the thing the slave cylinder is pushing) when you press pedal 10-15mm movement of arm, if not enough movement and not leaking then try bleeding it and if that doesn't work figure on a clutch change, you can check/replace the spigot bearing at the same time
check the profile of the clutch forks they should have a nice hump on them, generally with a small flat spot, but if flat is more than 6-10mm then forks are worn out
also worth noting that one brand of slave cylinder has a very long yet insubstantial nylon end and these can split/wear out and that could also reduce effective travel

Thank you Aidan I will have a look at all those suggestions tomo (the ones I can get to anyway...) I will be taking box off soon any way as I have now got an 8e box to fit so can do clutch repair while doing this....thanks for suggestions once again...
