Loose socket at rear? Where does it go?

Post by khoo10cents »

Hi Guys,

I've got a loose socket at the rear left by the fuel tank float. Any idea what's it for?... I've looked at my friend's doka and he doesn't have it. Here's a pic...

Both of mine have it too. Someone told me what it was for but i cant remember. it is like the diff lock activation switch connectors. it could be something like the redundant activation light switch for a decoupler just tucked up out of the way there.
whatever it is, it is in the wiring loom for some optional extra which none of our vans have.
I don't think something has fallen off which should otherwise be there.

Yeah, I think you're right. There will be a connector for the decoupler up there somewhere. :ok

Yup. That is for the decoupler that was deleted from production at a very early stage. As far as I know all Syncros that have lockers have this extra connection as its part of the loom and was never removed. Its not for diagnostics!

 You are funny. I think the phrase you're looking for is 'Future proofing'!!

I think all syncros regardless of fitting of difflocks have the loom for them and the decoupler because the reverse switch wire is in that loom too , I know Edna had it and she's a non locker van originally

Who me .... funny peculiar maybe! Nope not future proofing. I dont think there is a phrase but I think laziness on VW's part to remove / costing too much to re engineer / homoligate is really the story .....

Future proofing would infer that it would never stop being used but I think almost all of those connectors have and never will be used. I would never get into a discussion on de couplers though .... as you well know although arguing the futile can be fun!!

Hello!

I have recently installed a decoupler kit and that is the cable that must be connected on the decoupler switch...
