Tail gate switch?
I'm sure its a silly question but my tailgate appears to have a courtesy light trigger switch next to the lock plate which has no wires connected to it. Did this normally trigger the normal courtesy lights or were there 'luxury' tailgate lights on other models?

Covkid,
Haynes wiring diagram page 12.32 'typical interior light, luggage boot light'
Shows a switch (F5), luggage boot light, right (W3). 0.5 sqmm red feed from connector T3d and 0.5 sqmm brown/white to the switch but only the hint of a line to earth with no specified earthing point. T3d is shown fed from 8 amp fuse S48 which also feeds (U7) rear right cigarette lighter. All sounds Caravelle to me.
Hope this helps.
Mike

No sign of any boot light though. Mines an 84 if that makes any difference. Got the switch (no wires to it) and thats all.

Interior lights
Mines an 83 velle cl and has the switch halfway up the left hand pillar of the boot as you look at it. It works two interior lights, one behind the sliding door and one over the driver's door, none near the boot tho!!
Work till I'm 65? Not if I can help it.............

Tail gate switch?
I would think this was put in by some previous owner as an alarm device of some type.
I think it is to low for a light switch, but nice and low so that an alarm operates very soon after opening tail gate.
Or even a indicator to let you know the tail gate is not closed????

On the other hand I may have a 'luxury executive Mark 2' caravelle and not realised it - the addition of this switch adding an extra grand to the original showroom price.
So next time I attend vanfest, when everyone is bragging about the chrome window rubbers and bumpers, I can smugly point to that switch and casually say "Ah yes, but this caravelle has the luxury executive Mark 2 boot switch you know".

Old one: Yes definately, fit one of those switches and you'll be the envy of your friends.
That said, I always thought the lack of light in the (dare I say it) cargo area has room for improvement anyway. I might just fit a couple of tail gate lights to that switch so other T25 owners can say "oooooooh"" everytime I open the tailgate....
Suspect it is indeed the remnants of an alarm though. Still, waste not want not eh.
