misfire in inlet manifold

It seems highly unlikely that you'd get the same problem if you've changed the head. Re-check the plug order (ie firing sequence) and make sure dizzy isn't 180 degrees out?

i'd be installing the correct dissy, firstly........

sounds luike sparks in the wrong order from here, but have you checked all the vacum pipes.

running Webber 34 ICT's (from a 1600 i think)

...and wouldn't they run a bit weak unless they've been rejetted? Just a guess, they might be fine but not on full bore.
