What wheels to fit on a 16"?
Does anyone have any suggestions on wheels for a 16" Doka, I'm looking for 6.5 - 7 ins wide and don't want to have to swap the studs for longer ones. I've looked at mercedes steels and granada cosworth alloys but want something that will stand up to a bit of rough treatment. I know there are threads about this, but they seem to mainly cover 2wd.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not changing studs, your options are very limited. Alloys are thicker & most offsets will be out, needing spacers. Steels only really.

whs.
even the alloys with a correct offset dont really leave enough thread to be 100% safe. i think the 16" syncro steels look spot on if shod with the correct rubber.

16" steels look good, or get 16" mefro steels. Slightly wider, 6" i think? so you can fit a wider range of tyres.

Lee's right unfortunately. I had these on my 16" and they looked fab, but took them off when I started offroading as I didn't feel they had enough bolt clearance to be safe enough. The set of 4 is for sale though.

Em, silly question but what wheels are on it at the moment?
There is a wheel made for Projektzwo by Ronal and they came in 15x7 and 16x7 in the correct offset for the T3. The 16" ones are not very common but occasionally appear on German E Bay but be sure you get the proper nuts to go with them.

Re: What wheels to fit on a 16"?
Thanks for the input, I feared that unless I changed the studs, alloys would be iffy for off roading.
It's on the original 16" steels at the moment.
If I stay with the standard wheels does anyone recommend a good size for AT tyres to go on (obviously I know the original size). At the moment I have M&S's on it, but I want to change to AT's and at the same time was hoping to beef up the look of the wheels/tyres, as to my eyes they look a little skinny.
Thanks again Steve

Re: What wheels to fit on a 16"?

dont know what size tyres are on but i think limey looked bob on with this wheel set.
Re: What wheels to fit on a 16"?
Get the 16" mefro's in my opinion...900kg rated and specced to do the job......were these the VW OEM of choice I wonder?...does anyone know that?
Tyre size...I'm pondering that also at the moment for the DOKA.....AT's something or other but probably BFG. Would be inerested in what size you plumb for.
I also have 5 off 16" Mefro's I bought which I need to buy tyres for the 14" camper soon....another high value syncro decision!
Good luck

Re: What wheels to fit on a 16"?
i`ve run
205/80/16
225/75/16
255/65/16
i think the tyres above are 235/70/16. but dont quote me.
what engine / gears are you running. you can ruin the way the van drives with the wrong tyre size.

I got these on my standard steels http://www.camskill.co.uk/m64b0s233p614 ... T_XL_FR_TL_" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
look like this

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

standard steels are pretty slim, so tyre choice is limited. Mine are also factory size 205/80/16. And skinny tyres are better for mud, so i've been told

Re: What wheels to fit on a 16"?
This whole wheel tyre situation seems to be an issue for lots of people reading various threads, when I originally thought about changing my wheels I didn't think it would be such a mine field
, especially when you see so many buses with alternative wheels.
My doka is a 2.1, I don't know which gearbox (I haven't explored that yet), was there more than one on the 2.1 doka?
I think for now I am going to keep my original steels, although I need to get another one as I haven't got a spare; which looks like it will need to come from Patrik or the like. I would like to go up in width but I'm too tight to buy mefro's just to gain an inch
. I will try and go for as wide a tyre as I can get away with without upsetting the handling.

The Mefro's we buy now are Trailer wheels. Mefro make wheels for most car manufactures and probably made wheels for the T3 but the wheels we now buy for our T3's are not OEM !!
225/75/16 are about as wide as you can go on a 6" rim. Why wide any way? Wide isnt always good.
