Hinges
Hi all im not sure if this is the right place to post this subject.
I am looking at different types of hinges to use for my homemade R&R bed. I will be seating two kids in their possible so would like them to be sturdy enough that i feel safe with them in it. I am also on a tight budget so as many ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated as i could look through and get the best all round. Also is there any proven wa of making your own locking device? any pictures of people making their own would be amazing.
Is there any laws/MOT standards on the hinges?
cheers all
Jim

I don't have a R&R bed
My bed is just two ply boards with three door hinges.

Re: Hinges
yes a bed and a seat.... made by autosleeper.
the last foot and a half of the bed rests on the furniture and a flap that swings out, there's a length of wood that slots into the cross piece to stop it moving around
you can see the flap folded back here.

and here's the seat ready to use, you can see the runner on the kitchen unit under the second cupboard down nearest the seat

The back of the seat is held by a piece of angle iron and a couple of door bolts

Re: Hinges
Ah i see, i was going to make a bracket that had 3 locking posistions. upright for travelling, slouched back for watching tv and relaxing etc and one flat for making it into the bed. it would be a sheet of 5mm steel on the bed frame with 3 holes cut into it for the locking device. then another on the back section of the frame which moved into the 3 posistions. does that make sense?

Re: Hinges
nope.. I like simplicity, and this bed seat is just that
I just sit or sleep,... or the buddy seat is drawn up as a foot stool, if we watch TV.

But hey it's your bag you do what you want... bespoke beds are exactly that, and you seem to have a plan. so I doubt anyone else will make one like you do... but you never know eh?

Re: Hinges
Yea your right i could put my own thinking in to it. but wasnt so sure about the laws.... i know that if i make this bracket i will be safe in the knowledge knowing that if the worst happens and i slam on then the kids wont projectile through the window
