And yes you can cheat, there is a way of lubing the motor without taking the whole front end to bits. (search)
However, if mine ever goes again i will replace the motor with a new one, theyre cheap and it isnt worth the effort to dismantle yer dash just to oil the bearings and have to do it again in a year or so

Brillant I will have a crack at this
? What spray did you use
? Is the air box fan housing the same for lhd/rhd ie drill as samba thread
? Mines 1.9 petrol auto holdsworth if I do bit the bullet and go for a replacement straight away ,the air box will I need to cut it open force apart the Hayes manual refers to clips

I've read threads and Hayes manual on doing right ie dash removal but seems long but simple job ie take time lots photos ,labels
But a lot of simple mistakes could be made I notice in one pic steering column not removed just released a top Thanks

I have to say fella, you'll be on a hiding to nothing trying to lube it. I know it won't stop you and you may even free it off, but those blowers (when old) draw a hell of a lot of current when first started and you'll still blow fuses on and off. Once the motor reaches the end of its useful life the resistance can change dramatically. I freed mine off but it now has (wait for it) a 75amp fuse to cope with the initial startup. Needless to say theres a potential fire hazard so I'll be replacing my motor as soon as warmer weather comes. For £40 and a days work, you'd be better off replacing it. Getting the dash out is not as hard as it sounds.

Its a good opportunity to sort out washer pipes, washer jets, earth crowns and all the other stuff like untidy wiring that you can't really get at with dash in situ. I added an extra fuse box (around a tenner) at the same time, to handle all those 'extras' that VW did not envisage when they built these vehicles. :D

I know and understand what you are saying the van has only do 70 k so hope the blower got a lot of life left just a dry bearing it does start and spin for 7/8 seconds with a squeak before blowing fuse
also my experience with the quality of some of the bits on offer from Jk heritage etc is shocking and not a patch on og parts so if my Vw blower lasted only 70k I would not hold out much hope for a made in china as cheap as poss one ive had hub caps go rusty in a day , i seem to snap window winders for fun now got og ones, fitted a side mirror yesterday removing my og Vw one for a cheap bit of plastic
this weekend I will flush the coolant and replace it with 8 litre's of g12+ (not cheap ) and 8 litre's deironiesd water so do believe in doing things right ,but is fitting a cheap pattern part the right way ?if this dont work then I have to go down this road
If I could get hold of Nos Vw blower that would be perfect

Thanks

Go for it fella. Don't mess trying to free the old one. Even as a minimum it'd need new brushes and then you still have to get in there to do it. Might as well do the job once and once only. Get LOADS of plusgas on the bolt ends that hold the blower casing to front of van - ideally days before you start. You can just see them if you remove front headlight grill (heads are on the inside of the van). They're the most stubborn bit. The rest is just a gradual plod, a cheery whistle, and someone around to make tea. You'll find loads of little jobs to do on the way in, like touching up rusty edges on dash, fitting some insulation to bulkhead to make it warmer, cleaning connections....
