What do you attach your free standing awning bar to the camper with. My westy high top gutters are filled with a foam /filler and the clamps i have struggle to grip. I think with a good breeze and it would all fall apart.

Bigger clamps?

Guessing it's a high top - or else you could lash it over the van......

Get a 'J' rail ... available from most caravan shops, they rivet onto yer hi-top creating a second gutter rail (that's NOT full of filler of whatever) you can use the figure 8 shaped plastic insert then along the joining flap.

I can just get the pole clamps to fit, but like you said not very secure. I have got some of the JK suction clamps but so fas I have not had much sucess with them.

I currently use two or three of the small ratchet clamps that you can get from poundland, work a treat.

Thanks all, some good ideas. The JK ones do seem a bit pricey so it looks like poundland or the J rail.
