intermittent problem starting

Post by kemshell »

I have an intermittent problem starting my 2 litre petrol '81 air-cooled van. It turns over but does not fire. I have replaced the battery, plugs, ht leads, distributor cap and rotor arm and checked all the electrical connections and I am still having problems, what should I replace next?

A little detective work might help.
Are you getting 12V at the coil?......... possible ignition switch problem.
Are you getting a spark?....................ignition module.

Had similar problems starting when it was a bit damp. Cleaned up coil connections, which were a bit manky, and now starts first time.

There is a supply of petrol, I am getting 12 volts at the coil and it is sparking fine. I have just bought a new T25 IGNITION SWITCH UNIT RELAY “ T C I"| from JK I will fit that and see if that help!
