heating-de-icing

I have no heat exchangers, just J tubes on my 2 litre CU..Last winter was mare. I am used to de icing inside and outside, but this was futile last winter as the cab was as cold as outside . I am thinking of getting an inverter and running a fan type heater to de-ice.

Has anyone else any suggestions or experience they can offer in advice.


I will probably invest in a propex, but this won;t help with de icing the windscreen?

In bay window campers I used to put a couple of hot water bottles on the dash half an hour before driving it.

Surely you can direct the output of the Propex to the windscreen. I do with my Webasto from under the rear seat. I also can switch it on from the comfort of my bed before I get up so that it is warm and defrosted before I go outside.

no inverter will cope with a fan heater

propex or webasto or eberspacher will do the job

I would recommend a diesel eber over a propex if you have no other form of heating because you can run it whilst driving.

I fitted a diesel eber in the passenger footwell under the glovebox with a small fuel tank behing the front grill (above the spare wheel)

I then removed the front cowling below the heater controlls and routed the pipe into the ducting for the demister. Problem solved.

This was two years ago when it got down to below -10 and I drove the van all winter like that without a problem. The beauty of it is you can stick the eber on while you have your breakfast and by the time you get in the ven the windows are clear and it's already warm.

Last winter I parked mine close enough to run the electric hook up to it, and then plugged in an electric heater - the one that looks like a radiator and has heating elements in it but no fan, basically a convection heater. Obviously I couldn't drive with it plugged in but it was warm and frost free when I started the drive to work. And for the drive back home I used fizzy pop bottles full of hot water layed across the dash, and also one of those rubbish 12v heater things that you can get from Maplins, Halfords etc. Maybe I should just fix my eber

You did that the year before to if I remember right
