Swapping in a rev counter - is the wiring already in place

Post by el_presidente »

Hello - my dash currently has just a temp and fuel guage in the right hand side of the pod. It's a 1985 1.6TD. I've got my hands on a 2nd had pod where the blue pcb thingy is a bit knackered but it has the rev counter which I want to add to my dash.

My question is, will all the wiring be in place to just swap the guages or will I need to add any wiring from the engine?

thanks

Hello,

it should be fine - there's a green wire that comes in from the W pin of the alternator which should already control your BOD circuitry. From memory it goes to pin 9 on the 14 pin multiconnector.

As far as I know the PCB you have should already have a terminal ready to connect to the rev counter, which is blanked off on the clock version.

wiring will be in the van

but you will need a rev couter specific pcb

or you will need to make a few of your own connections!

for rev counter feed- 3 wires and petrol/temp gauge are in a different place
