Turning £50 worth of parts into a £600 part is nearly a good a return as making Latte.

Re: Let the arguments commence......
I have got the bits, but need to find the time to do this. Plus mine is fine at the moment so in no rush.

Come on Al, you can do better than that.......

Nice find Al. I haven't checked into ig16 for a while. I presume that Zuschalltallrad (abbreviated to ZA) translates roughly to "switchable 4x4" as it implies that the firmer viscos with a 90 degree torque time of 75 seconds is better for decoupled vehicles.
It says a lot if you can refill, reseal and test a VC on the back of a truck, in a field and have them come up within specification.
So who's going to start supplying them here then?

What would be the point if it's so easy to do yourself.....

Re: Let the arguments commence......
I think I am still a little reluctant to open up the old VC. The reason being that my VC is hard one
, whether through wear, or by design I dont honestly know, and there are arguments to support both theories. If the vc has gone hard because the plates have warped then where do I get a spare set from? so I think you would need access to a couple of VC's to be able to have a go, and the time to fit one, and drive it (pref with a decoupler) to see how it performs. Now my hard VC does not spin up the back wheels hardly at all, which makes doing donuts in the snow very difficult (but not impossible
) You would then need the time to take it out and do it all over again. I am told the fill method as used by VW was 95% correct, the ones out of spec that were hard went to the 16" and the soft ones kept for people who didnt like the transmission wind up that just does exist( as a retro fit by SDP). So the fill method should work if the weight is correct. It is just a can of worms that needs sorting out by someone with more time and money than me I think. The de-coupler does protect the Vc and keeps its performance more regular as it is not being used very much, so I think in all reality I am going to stick with what I have got.
Simon.

Re: Let the arguments commence......
Have seen a couple of spent VC's going for around €150 on GBay lately, think the last one went for €138.
Would be ace if someone could work this out though as it would save me £700.

Re: Let the arguments commence......
I tried to tell the good folk of sambaville about this one (there's a thread asking for info) but as per usual they threw it back in our faces. Sod 'em then.

Re: Let the arguments commence......
Hello Simon
I've never seen any warped plate in a VC.
Sure I've not seen each VC, but I can't imagine how the plates could get warped.
The only damage of the plates (as I've seen) are circular scratches, made by rotation difference between the two "sides".

Re: Let the arguments commence......
the plates are only 0.35mm apart and what I saw on the one I opened was clear plate against plate wear on the outer few plates, but I agree they didn't seem to be warped but I didn't put them on a flat surface to check them
also some of the plates had lost the rainbow bluing that they have which I guess is a hardening/coating process or the result of the machining/cutting of the holes/slots
I've got one duff vc here that can be experimented with but I haven't got the time to get involved with them at the moment (and no personal imperative as my VC seems A1, it was new genuine 5 years ago and I rotate my tyres, even the muds) I was in touch with Simon about this earlier in the year and had left it that if he got a few seal kits and the fluid I'd buy some off him to do one, Lee I know is keen to progress it and Ian maybe the best placed in terms of precision to do them
all the other VC cores I had went to Brickie and to Classic to enable them to have refurbished units on the shelf as I couldn't afford to stock them and dealing with the grumpy man in Switzerland and the vat man wasn't much fun for me
