over heating
I was out in van yesterday got stuck in traffic for about an hour,i had the heater on in van when i looked down and my thermostat light was flashing, i pulled over and turned off heater for a minute and it stopped flashing, got home and today checked level of water needed some but not a lot any advice ?

Did you check the water level in the main header tank, or just the expansion tank (aka top-up tank) behind the reg plate?
Have you had any work done on your cooling system recently (if so, might need bleeding some more)?
Any wet patches on the ground under the van after it has been parked-up for a while?

hi.its a faulty connection.if you take the cover off and turn the bulb slightly it will go out.the light flashes sometimes even when van is cold. richard.

What was the temperature needle saying? if it was 'normal' position then it's just likely that the level in the 'main' coolant tank dropped a little bringing on the coolant level warning light...it only takes a few centimetres drop to expose the sesor and bring on the warning light.
Top up both tanks (main tank to the brim) the other to the max mark and keep a very close eye for coolant loss.

To be completely honest....I wouldn't pass this off with "its a faulty connection" without knowing more, especially as it has just happened.
The red flashing light is not a thermostat light.
Its a water too hot and/or water too low light.
You need to use in conjunction with regular checks and your needle.
It may be that your sensor in the expansion tank is furred up, and needs a clean.
It may be that you have a small leak, that evaporates, so you are not seeing it.
YOU NEED TO CHECK THE EXPANSION TANK as often as you use the vehicle...so that you can confidently say that the flashing red light is a connection fault, and nothing else, cos the engine ain't hot and its got plently of water. And just pray that gasses don't build up in the system..... (if you brim both tanks, run it, and when you park up, and its cooled, the water level in the expansion tank has dropped....you need to find out why)
Sorry to be so hard....but with these busses its easy to say "its electrical" - and it is safe to do so ONLY IF YOU KNOW THE BUS, and you are confident with your checks.

yes its my old bus.it doesnt use a drop of water.there was an electrical fault behind the dash.it was something to do with the ignition light and glow plug light and also the ignition light which has been put elsewhere but the water and glow plug light still come on every so often. richard.
