USB charger

Post by cosmicsheep »

Has anyone ever fitted USB charging sockets to their camper? I'm looking at something a bit more flush mounted than the usual cig socket to usb converters.
Is it just a case of wiring it straight to a 12v source?

thanks.

There are a few available on the bay of fleas, and most UK sellers are simply selling China purchased items as 10 x the cost, so if I were you I would buy from the source, heres a link to one example...

Or heres a flush cigar lighter type..

USB chargers have a carefully regulated 5 Volts output.
They have a voltage regulator chip inside that reduces 12 Volts down to 5 Volts.
I only mention this just in case you were to try and connect up a standard usb socket to 12 Volts ( would equal a bang and smoke from whatever you plugged into it  )

I like that first one.... that could be flush mounted in the rear and connected to my leisure battery to give multiple charging options.

I've done this and they both connect directly to the leisure. One on the dash and one in the back.

Not so much as flush mounted, but the inverter that I have behind my drivers' seat has a USB outlet.

My stereo also has one.

I also have one of the dual USB plugs that goes into the cig socket, I find that I use this more as it's portable and easily moved from socket to socket around the Westy.
