popped out of second when I lifted off the accelerator

Post by Hoss »

Hi all,
on my way to work this morning my truck popped out second gear when I lifted off the accelerator. It goes into all gears with ease, to make sure it wasn't me I did put it into second a couple oftimes and again it popped out when I lifted off the accelerator. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please....is there some kind of adjustment I can make? I haven't time to run through previous posts or the Wiki as i am in work =\
Cheers,
Hoss

Can't believe this is happening as its up for sale =[

Mine's being doing it since it was fitted (bought off the garage floor app working OK... ), I had all the linkages checked and they were OK, garage reckoned something had worn in the box, diagnosis = recon the box. Couple of people here say they've been living with it for years, don't suppose that helps if your selling it tho...

Let us know if your diagnosis is anything different..

Hi Sag,
got it sorted.....it was a simple case of lubrication, I lifted the gaiter on the gearstick in the cab and gave it a blast with some WD40, then gave it a wiggle and by the time I got to work it was sorted..... hasn't jumped out since =]

Hope this helps others,
Cheers,
Matt

WD40 is the fixer of everything. What a brilliant invention. Who needs spanners and screwdrivers when you have a can of it?
Some say it is much better than gas and air when giving birth, but personally I think that is going too far.
:ok

Excellent!

Mine's been doing that since I got it back in June. Gonna give the WD40 a go... but which is better WD40 or GT85?!

Only one way to find out!

I'm prety sure GT has silicon in it whereas WD40 is silicon free and therefore wont last as well.

I sprayed WD40 in the same place on the 5 speed van I briefly recently owned = made the stick much easier to operate.

GT85 is great for cleaning dashboard etc too :ok

WD40 is rubbish as a rusty nut releasing fluid (use PlusGas = much much better)

you might be right NKC,
it popped out on the way home last night so dribbled a load of general handy oil (some thing with a little more viscosity) in there last night and left it to soak over night and it hasn't popped out once this morning.

Let me know how the GT stuff works though =]

I don't think my wife would have been happy if I had a a can of wd40 on hand for our daughters birth.....I am sure it would have helped though =]

Wow! this is great, I have only had my van a week, and it was doing exactly the same- jumping out of second if I took my foot of the accelerator.
I sprayed the WD40 in as above, and this morning it has not popped out of gear at all! :D

Thanks,

Jim

I wonder what Aiden (80-90's resident gearbox expert / professional) would say about this ?
