I have checked Wiki for this information. Can someone please confirm that my 1.9 non turbo diesel engine should take 4.5 litres of oil including the filter loaded?
Also I'm going on a long trip and wish to check other oils. I understand the gearbox oil should not need topping up - is this correct is there a visual check for level.
Apart from water, alternator belt, brake fluid etc are there any other fluid levels i should be checking.
Thanks for any answers.
Engine and gearbox oil capacity and other checks!

The only way to check the gearbox oil is to unscrew the fill plug and "dip" the box. Fill plug is on the off side of the gearbox. I believe the level should be 10mm or so below the hole (given level ground) but it's diferent for diferent vehicles, it's listed in the heynes so I'll check at lunch if no one comes back to you.
4.5 litres of engine oil sounds correct. Brake and Clutch fluid are the same hole as each other.
The only things I can see you missed are window washer bottle(s) and beer!!
