unleaded in diesel
hi all,
just tanked my diesel transit with unleaded absolutely gutted as it was £80. am hoping there is an upside to this which is do you reckon i could get away with putting it in the camper. the transhite was almost on the red so it is well diluted and i dont want to waste it and the camper is almost empty as well.
regards,
a very embarrased and upset billybigspud

Re: unleaded in diesel
I have absolutely no technical explination as to what a small amount of diesel would do in 80 litres of petrol, but I would bloody well use it.
Martin.
Diesel is an engine not a fuel.
I liked camping so much I went full time.

Re: unleaded in diesel
this is exactly what i am thinking. might give the pump a good lubricating on the way through. i am so gutted it is untrue. i wouldnt even entertain using it in my fragile piece of wotsit clio but the camper is built from dark magic from the oldern days i reckon.

Re: unleaded in diesel
I wouldnt bother.
almost on the red will mean there was still a fair bit of diesel, if youve ever run a vehcle clean out youll know most will go well past the red before they conk out. Most vehicles have still got a few gallons left when you hit the red.
Diesel is thick and oily and you will and up with :
A lot of smoke
Rough running
Poor starting
Oiled up plugs
Nasty gummy diesel deposits in the carb jets etc
etc etc
Its not worth the hassle for £80!
Worst I ever did was in my late teens was 'borrow' a tin of fuel from the old mans garage (used to do that quite often when I was a bit skint) that he kept for the lawnmower. Cept this one was premixed 2 stroke for the chainsaw.... You never saw so much smoke, it ran like a baga nails and refused to start once id stopped it!!

Mmm... dont think this will work - Petrol and diesel are completely soluable within each other, they will not seperate through any means other than distillation.
I guess you could use it by adding say a gallon or 2 to every tankfull you put in the camper which would dilute it even further.
Or the lawnmower being as breaking down on the lawn is less of an issue than on a major highway!

Re: unleaded in diesel
yep, as said I would stick 2-3 gallons in with a tank up and if that is ok with no lez smoke then next time double it up , If you lived nearer I would take this contaminated mix off you for 30p/ltr

Re: unleaded in diesel
I wouldn't waste it but as others have said, if you just fill the camper up with this 12:1 mix? it will smoke like billyoo but if you add say 2-3 gallons every petrol fill the Diesel/Petrol ratio will be further diluted 100:1 and any effects will be hardly noticable.

A mate filled his diesel van up with unleaded in France and just kept adding Derv every time he passed another service station with no ill effects whatever.

Re: unleaded in diesel
put 3 gallon in, 10 to go. diluted it with £25 so the ratios are really small. bit smokey but drives and starts fine.
