Front Grill Removal - Are the Headlight washers fixed?

Post by Mickyfin »

I need to remove my front twin headlight grill to get to my radiator bleed screw, but upon trying to do so yesterday, the grill wouldn't come out as the headlight washers appear to be attached.

My question is, can the headlight washers be left in situ, thus disconnecting from front grill, but leaving the washers themselves still plumbed into the pipework?

I also have a bull bar fitted, which I am kind of hoping I can leave fitted, but it does restrict my working space with the grill. If its possible to detach the headlight washers from the grill, if someone can tell me how, I will do this, as it will be easier than removing the full bull bars for sure.

Thanks in advance :ok

E D I T - I found this image on VZi, which shows the lower headlight washers attached to the grill. I'm guessing I will need to disconnect the washer pipes then, which means I will have to remove the bull bar after all.

Damn, lot of work just to get to the radiator bleed screw. Oh well, need to wait for the rain to stop now, then get dirty lol.

Just undo the 5 plastic lugs/securing screws at top of grill and drop it forward. Usually enough slack to get at bleed screw without major surgery unless someone has previously hacked the pipes. :ok

Cheers ELVIS, will give that a go, I was worried about upsetting something yesterday when trying to remove the grill. Having looked on ETKA, it looks straight forward to undo, and remove the headlight washing system if need be, but will try and access radiator bleed screw first with just pulling the grill out a little.

if its just to get to bleed screw , you can do it thr grill. No difference which way, your only undoing/tightening a screw.

Oh right, I was under the impression I had to remove it. The thing is, I was originally planning on draining from a rad hose into a bucket which is clearly marked inside. I planned on draining 8ltrs of water, then add 8ltrs of antifreeze, so going down the route of the bleed screw to drain coolant/water, Im unable to measure accurately how much water I have actually drained.

Hope that makes sense?

The bleed screw is like one on your radiators, just lets the gas out.

If you dont bother using the bleed screw the engine will bleed the radiator on a good long run.

If you really want to flush the system of all the old coolant, which if you are going to the expense of G11, then you will need to blow through the hoses with the garden hose, or fill with plain water and flush through until you have removed all the old.

Thanks Simon, the cooling system is already flushed, and the contents are only water as of right now, hence why I wish to simply drain 8ltrs of water, and add 8ltrs of G12+.

I flushed the system when the metal cooling system pipe was replaced, along with the thermostat which was renewed also. Ran a hose, and left it running until the contents were clear water, and not brown.
