Cheapest ferry prices

I am planning a trip to St Amand le Petit, nr Limousin in central France next year. Any advice on the cheapest time to go re ferry prices ( bearing in mind that I would like some nice-ish weather)? And anyone travelled that way and used LPG gas? Any help welcome. Cheers.

Not sure that they are the cheapest, but I always use LD lines for their quick 3 hour crossing Portsmouth to Le Havre. Gets you a little further down than Calais for a start.

We went down the center 2 summers ago, Dover-Calais and either through Rouen or Paris, we chose the latter, BIG mistake still, the girls got to see Paris close-up and personal as we crawled through St.Denis which was being rebuild at the time.

We stayed on a France Passion cider farm near Montargis (2 hours south of Paris) the first night

and a F.P. Cote de Rhone vineyard an hour or so further south on the second night.

went Dover Calais in late August. went with P&O at a cost of £45 each way (with a offer of a free Disney ticket worth £50) It's best to wait for the online deals. They all do them, Sea France, P&O etc. As said above avoid Paris, but that's easy enough if you use sat-nav, We always use the toll roads too. Portsmouth Caen will take you further down, but at a cost. we were quoted over £600 for that trip !

At the moment the ferry companies are pushing cheap autumn/winter fares, they havn't got round to sending out details of 2012 discount codes, yet. Without a discount code it would cost around £135 to take my T4 from Dover to Calais & back next May/June with Sea France. The outward crossing costs £50 & the return crossing £85. I reckon that it will be another month or so before next year's discount codes are sent out.

out of interest I just had a quick look on their site, in nov we can go ret £76 2 of us, in my 2012 same journey £102 without codes so not bad considering how we get reamed on the irish sea

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs! Sea France have just sent me a discount code for summer 2012. The main condition is that my booking has to be made by 31st October 2011. The code is ''EBOMOTOBVP'' & this reduces my fare from £135.00 to £109.50 for the journey described in my previous post.

We save our Tesco clubcard vouchers and then cash them in for Eurotunnel (1/3rd the price of a normal booking).

As long as you book far enough in advance or avoid the peak times, there should be a high vehicle space available, but I think they charge about £10 for taking a campervan rather than a high car with roof box. It means that you get on last, though, as that's where they put vehicles with gas cylinders.

Their computer obviously noted that I had been on their website looking at 2012 fares & churned out a discount code. Do I book now or do I hold out for a better deal? Last year I paid around £85.00 but this time it's £109.50. Descisions, descisions.

Slightly off topic but, how does it really stack up in terms of cheap ferry v longer driving to get where you wan to go..........

I thought it would be cheaper to get a ferry further down the coast - St Malo/Caen etc - than Calais then drive until one quote came back near on £1000!!!!

I'd really like to go to France next year, I'd really like to go a bit further south than Normandy for some nice weather I don't have LPG and I seemed to spend several hundred pounds in fuel on my fortnight's tour of Devon & Dorset this year.

Seems to me I'd be spending a lot on fuel to get to the region I want tour unless I can get a REALLy good discount code!!
