I'm on the lookout for a replacement automatic gearbox for my 1981 CU as mine went pop in Italy. At the moment the van is at a specialist workshop back in Germany with the gearbox still in it. The mechanic is going to remove the box and take it apart but he has advised that I might be better off financially just replacing it with a second hand one.
I've seen one available for €580 with 140tkm on it from a 2.1 ltr MV - my question is are all the gearboxes and torque converters the same in all T25s or will I need to get one from the 2ltr Aircooled specifically.
Thanks
Are all automatic gearboxes the same?

Re: Are all automatic gearboxes the same?
I had a 2ltr cu Aircooled with an automatic gearbox which leaked and couldnt get the gears. So i asked about the same question apparently the later types for the WBX have an internal oil cooler connected to the engine coolent system. But they still fit a 2ltr cu engine and will be okay without using the internal oil cooler.
Re: Are all automatic gearboxes the same?
air cooled box is physically differnt to the watercooled box.
i would imagine the Aircooled box to be the same as a bay window type 2 box but will need to check.
as previuosly said the watercooled boxes also have an oil cooler.
its possible the later box will fit but with a bit of meeing about possibly tho never done it so if you do let us know!

Re: Are all automatic gearboxes the same?
Thanks guys. I`ve sourced a second hand box from a CU the other side of the country but haven´t enquired about price yet, and picking it up will be a pain. I'll be calling the garage later and see if they´ve had time to strip mine down to source the problem. Hopefully it will just be the torque converter but who knows.
