Broken down by loch ness :(

Post by Texxy »

Hi guys I don't know if anyone can help, does anyone know of a mobile mechanic who can work on t25,s 1.9dg petrol ? We seem to have had a massive loss of power and some odd sounds from the engine. We are at lochness holiday park near invermoriston. We have checked leads plugs etc and can't see the problem and dont want to cut short my holiday and get a lowloader back to Kent if I can help it.

Many thanks Andy 07590927260

Tried them thanks but little help, got a mobile mechanic out who thinks it might be valves. We had just done 100 miles fine then stopped for fuel, van did not want to start and let out a cloud of black smoke. Over next 10-15 miles slowly lost power and started to juder and generally sounded rough. We checked leads and plugs they seem ok. Any ideas please ? It's a 1.9 petrol 84 DG on 40k after a recon and 450 miles after new exhaust and full service.

Are you sure you put petrol in instead of diesel?

Seems strange that all was well until you filled up with fuel.

Alternatively contaminated fuel, could you pull off the fuel filter pipe from the tank and run some fuel into a clear jar and see what it looks like?

Good luck.

We ran some petrol out and it looked ok, 99% sure it was unleaded and another van filled up from the same pump and is ok. The fuel filter seems ok also. How would you tell if the wrong fuel got put in ? It suggest fuel to me also. We still had half a tank so no reason to suck dirt up either.

I will check in the morning, going to check compression and try and look at the valves in the
morning. Thank you for the ideas.

Texxy, did you get sorted?
I'm in Cromarty, have a pit, but not able to travel due to broken gear linkage "detent" on my 1986 Kamper, 1.9 DG 4 speed; if you can get to here ( turn inland at Drumnadrochit, about 45 mins through Beauly to us from you normal driving) I have plenty tools etc.
My problem is I cannot understand how the link fork/detent thingys inside that box under the gear lever actually fit together, even after looking at Harrymann's and others excellent stuff on the wiki; mine is somehow detached and I had to stop engine each gear change on way back from Inverness! Antone got more pics?

Hiya, that's for the offer but think we are going to get relay back. Took the rocker covers off and one side was dry then we discovered the hydraulic tappet has broken and some of the parts are floating about inside some place. I hope you can get your issues sorted.
