1.9DG Head been skimmed

Post by jandm17 »

Hello All

Looking for some advice from those in the know, think i've messed up.....again!
After discovering that 2 plug holes were buggered on my existing heads, I managed to get hold of 2 more heads which I have had skimmed, but reading various posts apparently this is not advised.
Am I able to use the skimmed head at all now?

There are more knowledgable folk on here than me but although it's not advised, as you said, I think I saw somewhere that a small amount can be removed from the base of the head, so long as the same amount is removed from the recessed combustion chamber / valve area.

But I bow to anyone elses better knowledge.

Dan.

have them remove 1mm from the combustion chamber. it is a huge amount though, may be best to invest in some new heads, amc do brand new ones but its best to use vw springs and valves in them.

1mm is a lot.. and I doubt they have removed the same amount from the sealing face in combustion chamber.. so they will leak water from the jackets.. and I actually doubt that you can take 1mm from the barrel sealing face in reality, mocki had a set of heads that had been skimmed and they had broken through the barrel seal face into the water jacket.. tiny holes..

Corrosion on the jacket sealing faces is best dealt with by cleaning then filling with chemical metal (or similar) rather than skiming..

I agree with above
too much material.

JB weld is best to fill the pitting on the face
