Tickover Ok, but hesitates every 20 seconds NOW WITH VIDEO

Having recently replaced my fuel pump, I was hoping it would of fixed the hesitation I have when the engine is ticking over. Before the fuel pump, there was an electric after market pump fitted, and I thought that maybe this was the cause of the hesitation, but obviously not.

I have fitted new plugs, ht leads, and coil, with the only other things planned to renew are the dizzy cap, points and rotor arm.

The tickover is lovely and quiet, but every 20-30 seconds the revs dip as if theres some kind of starvation. Air filter is new, so too is the fuel filter.

Could this possibly related to a vacuum hose? Those small plastic hoses for the advance, and retard? If so, I will look around to see if I can source a supplier for enough to replace every vacuum hose on my engine.

Any help, advice, or tips to check would be greatly appreciated.

E D I T - Looked around and found some, but unsure if they are the right inner, and outer diameter. Anyone know the correct type of vacuum pipe I need?

Thats the right stuff, 3.2 to 3.8 mm will do fine.

Change all your hoses, ...anything crumbly is out!

Check inlet manifolds for leaks, use wd 40.

Check quality of hoses to air-cleaner,

Check crankcase breather not kinked.

OK, replaced all HT leads for the correct pin type as Brickwerks sell, new plugs, and new vacuum hoses throughout, and still experiencing the same issue.

I have noticed however that upon starting my engine, the choke does not appear to be functioning/working, resulting in quite a low rpm, and although it does tick over lovely, it hesitates, and almost stalls, then carries on, then repeats, and stalls.

How can I go about either adjusting the tick over, or check, fault diagnose the choke set up please?

Just to add, I have just been out for a run to the store, and when warm tickover is ok, but still hesitates, but not to the point it stalls, but I can clearly feel/hear the hesitation.

Video added to opening post showing the tick over up until stall. Also shows fuel in fuel filter low, so thinking fuel starvation due to worn fuel pump push rod maybe? Here's the video..

I have ruled out the following...

Spark plugs (Replaced with Bosch Super 4s)
HT Leads (Replaced with correct new leads)
All Vacuum hoses (Replaced with new)

I have ordered a new push rod from JK, and the following from Brickwerks...

Hose between airbox and cyclone (Mine is split)

Oil pressure switch - Blue (Mine is weeping oil)

T3 Breather pipe > WBX (Fitted pipe is very very soft, and brittle)

Distributor cap - T3 [Shielded] (Fitted cap looks worn on the contacts)

Choke pull down unit - T3 DG (Hopefully this will cure my choke, which is not working)

Rotor arm - non limited (Fitted arm looks worn)

Not sure if this is relevant or not but as well as not having that bit Kev mentioned, my old 1.9DG camper didn't have a fuel filter in the engine bay either - just the one immediately behind the fuel tank under the van on the driver's side. I recall seeing threads where too many filters were interfering with fuel supply before. (Not that I'm particularly mechanically minded, mind you; just though I'd mention it)

well as long as you have the one behind the petrol tank it wouldn't hurt to remove it and see what happens I suppose.

LOL, no fear that will happen mate, I was quite surprised actually to find that second fuel filter when I replaced my fuel lines, but left it in situ under the impression it must be there for a reason. Having said that, the previous owner may of put it there.

Thinking about it, I cannot see why there should be a fuel filter on the return pipe. Can anyone advise? Would it be ok to remove this said filter as seen in the photo below? (Highlighted by yellow arrow, and found inside the yellow square).



Im not completely sure, but I think I recall another pipe coming from this filter. I may well be wrong?

I was on about the one on the left hand side of the photo - I hadn't even SEEN that one.....

I think you might just have a 'too many filters syndrome' situation going on, but as I said I'm not mechanically minded. Best wait for someone who actually knows their ar$e from their elbow to back up my hypothesis I reckon
