Tripometer/mileometer not working - speedo OK

Post by timski »

Hi Guys,

The tripometer and mileometer has stopped working on my bus. I only noticed it near the beginning of my last trip as I reset the tripometer. It has been working fine since I bought the bus (April) but not sure when it stopped working although I'm pretty sure it was when I did the reset of the tripometer.

I've read the Haynes manual and couldn't find anything on the tripometer/mileometer specifically. I suppose it works in conjunction with the speedo? The speedo is working fine though. Couldn't find anything in the forum/WIKI although I may have been using the wrong search terms. Any pointers very welcome.

Thanks,
Tim.

This happened to me once. I pressed the trip set button again and it re-engaged. It might work.

Yeah I tried that too :-) Unfortunately it didn't work for me.

Am I right in assuming the speedometer/tripometer/mileometer are all driven by the speedo cable? I'm wondering if unattaching it reattaching it might nudge it back into action?

Cheers,
Tim.

its all the same drive from the cable but theres a cog that runs from the speedo to the odo ..have you tried flicking the button in and out to see if it moves ..rather than just pressing it..they do jam up sometimes

Invariably its because that cog has slid along and now no longer makes contact. Case of removing speedo, locating cog and using a GOOD quality superglue (not £1 shop stuff), to fasten it back where it should be on the shaft.

Never actually tried it, but should be possible to make small tubular spacer to stop it moving back in the future. Common fault this one.

Do you mean removing the speedo cable at the intrument panel end?

Not quite, its a case if removing the pod from the dash board and taking the clock out and getting inside...there is also a mechanism for the zeroing that could be stuck..at the bottom
