oil pressure light wont go out after servive!

Post by bradders89 »

Ive changed the oil and filter in my 1.9 dg engine, after start up the light doesnt go out! Spoke to a friend and he says i may need to prime the oil pump. Is this true or could it be anything else. The light sometimes flashed when drivin along but after switchin the engine off it went out after switchin it back on. Could it just be a buggered switch or do i need aa new pump?

can you tell us what oil you used, what filter you used, and whether you filled the oil filter before you put it back on? If I remember correctly, there was some mention of some oil filter not letting the oil circulate properly.....

I use the Mann as recommended on here.

Because of the irratic nature of the oil warning lights operation, I would suspect a faulty oil pressure switch or dodgy wiring.

In view of what you say about the light in post 1, I agree with Martin, and no you don't need to prime the pump after a routine oil change.

Mann filters are nearly always quoted as the only sensible ones to fit but I doubt that would be your problem, mind you they are only about £6 from the VW dealers.

Yep, I bet it;s a wiring issue ( I take it the engine sounds fine ? )
