Lower chin spoiler

Post by Stevie H »

While trying to undo the lower chin spoiler on my caravelle I found that all the screws just turned and turned. Obviousy the captive nuts have 'grown' onto the screws making them impossible to remove without grinding them. My question is: If I grind the screws off what is my alternative when refitting the spoiler?

Thanks in advance.

I have seen other posts where they say they are riveted.

I believe they're supposed to be fitted with 'rivnuts' (a hollow, threaded, rivet insert which acts as a captive nut). You'll have to drill or grind the old ones off and replace them.

Options are :- buy a rivnut kit ... i.e. the crimping/riveting tool to put then in and an assortment of rivnuts (IIRC they cost ~£30) OR pop along to your local small garage and ask if they'll do it for you, I'd have though quite a few would have these kits in and do it for you in exchange for a blue beer voucher.

Cheers,Ian.
