Tyres

Post by proober »

Hello C80-90,

I need to replace all four tyres on my T25 transporter, I'm a semi-noob so could do with some advice...

Currently on there are Eurotour Performance 408
with the code - 205/60R15 91H

I think they're 16" wheels.

Do I simply need to replace them with tyres that have the same code? [What does the code refer to?]

Are there specific van tyres I need? Any recommendations?

I'm in Cardiff if there's a decent tyre place?

So many questions...sorry!

Ta, proob

You've posted this in the wrong section.
Here's where it should have been:
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=41" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But....

If the tyres are 205/60R15 91H they are on 15" wheels and they are the wrong size.The tyres are not weight rated either for a T25 as they are car tyres.

The tyre sidewall details are explained here:
http://www.blackcircles.com/general/sidewall" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You need either 205/65/15C's or 195/70/15C's
There's no 'r' in bought!

205 is the tyre width in millimetres, so 20.5cm.

60 is the tyre profile height as a percentage of the width, so the tyre is 0.6 x 205 = 123mm

15 is the rim diameter in inches, so no they're not 16" wheels.

91 is the load rating, in this case denoting that each tyre can take a load of 615kg.

H is the speed rating, in this case denoting the tyres are ok up to 130mph.

You do pretty much need to match all of those. Change the width too much and they won't fit properly on your rims. You could change the profile height as long as you are replacing all the tyres the same, but if you change it too far it will affect the gearing/speedo reading/ride quality. You could go for a lower speed rating if it turned out cheaper - unless your van really will do 130mph :D

Load rating seems a bit marginal to me - 4x 615kg is 2460kg, which isn't much more than the max weight permitted for the vehicle - and that assumes perfectly even loading.

This might help: http://www.v8register.net/articles/Tyre ... 1.7.08.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

oops didn't realise there was a specific tyre/wheels section I should have posted this question in [can it be moved to the correct place?].

thanks both for the speedy reply! great info there ta.

So [here comes the noob] does it look like my van was fitted with car tyres rather than tyres made specially for vans? isn't this bad news? more importantly I guess is that I get the right tyres now...

So I need to look for a tyre place that can do 4 x 205/65/15C's [The C's denote that they're suitable for van loads?].

Does the C then cover the load rating you mentioned? Or should I look for a specific load rating on the tyre that's better than the 91 on the old tyres?

How much am I looking to spend dp you think?

Thanks again for your help it's really usefull!

You need to look for 195/70 X 15" for the radius and gearing to be spot on spec, with a load rating no lower than 95 (97 being better )
search for "reinforced" or 8 ply
The reinforced tyres will have a load rating of 97 and the C rated tyres or 8 ply will have a very safe 104 load rating

If you go here http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and type in your tyre details 195 70 15 R 97 you will get some idea of the costs

before you jump to buy 195 70 15 tyres check what width your wheels are

if they are a 6x15 rim then a 195- 70- 15 would suit well.
if they are a 7x15 then you are better to go for a 205 65 15 (sold in both car and van load rated )

to find the width.
if they have a large centre cap cover for bolt holes then there ma be a width there. (numbers like 6j 15 / 6.5j 15 / 7j 15 ) are posible.
if they dont have a cap check areond the wheel bolt hole area/ around the edge of the rim of the wheel.
still cant find any numbers..
jack up the van, take of a wheel (a rear is normaly easier/cleaner) and check the backs of the spokes of the wheel.

fitting 195 70 15´s to a 7x15 wheel will still work but it looks very od when fitted as the tyre is only just ad wide as the rim + plus you have almost no curb protection for the rim.

a 205 65 15 will fit fine on a 6x15

i personaly would go for a 205 65 15 tyre. as its a bit more tyre on the road + more protection for your wheels.

you could also fit a 205 70 15 tyre and even a 215 70 15, these will both drop your engine revs a bit thus helping to cut fuel costs.
(note the 215 70 is more suited to a 7x15 and if you have a lowed van more chane of tyre contact)
WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough
