Awning figure of eight modification

Post by bideford »

Hi all,

Just been searching for some awning info and noticed that a number of posts have referred to figure of eights not fitting over the gutter black trims.

Solved it on mine by running a 4.5mm drill bit (attached to a running drill!) down the side to be attached to the van. If you are careful (put the figure of eight in a vice/workmate) it is easy not to score the bottom with the drill end. If you are anal (like me) run a 4mm drill bit down first and then turn the figure of eight around and repeat with a 4.5mm bit. The drill bits only shave off one side and this way you will get the gap dead centre.

Apologies if this is old news.

btw - I was looking for some awning info as we were looking to get a smaller awning in place of our usual Royal Traveller 3 awning. Wanted something smaller, more "open" (more light, more doors/openings) and easier to erect. Have settled for a Khyam Motordome Tourer (which by all accounts will be a lot more open if I break the poles/joints when erecting...).
