1st gear changing issue - advice please

Post by lonstie »

hi,
my recently purchased T25 came with a gear changing issue which my mechanic is trying to resolve.4 speed - 1900 petrol
2nd,3rd and 4th gear reverse is okay.

To select 1st gear - rather than being directly opposite 2nd gear - to select : One has to slightly push down as you would as if you were trying to select reverse , move slightly to the left and up into 1st. Obviously not ideal when you are driving up a very steep hill.

Mechanic (not vw specialist): Is trying to resolve although not yet exactly sure why.
He has asked me on the phone to try and get some nylon parts initially to replace worn out with the changing mechanism to see if this will rectify but is unsure of the name.

I had a look last night on justkampers and found gear selector rod bush , universal joint -
Can anyone advise ?
cheers

These are the nylon ends on gearstick fork (underneath). Brickwerks certainly do them. Could well be the problem. They've only recently become available again. I need to replace mine now actually. Most have come to the end of their natural life by now.
