Hi, my '89 1.7 KY continues to throw me curves, just when I think I've got it figured out. Newest problem has me stumped, but I'm sure I've read someone having the exact same problem. Around town, it runs fine but twice today, after 15-20 minutes at highway speeds (85-90K 3500 RPM), pulling off the exit ramp it died as soon as I let off the accelerator. Wouldn't start for 15 minutes and then fired up and ran fine. First time I thought I was out of diesel and maybe my gauge was busted with ~400 k's since last fill up (started up after a walk to the station for some fuel) but on the drive home some 10 hours later it did the same thing on a full tank. Both times left me 1 mile short of destination...!!!
Of note: In between the two incidences today injectors were off and calibrated and before it happened the first time, I replaced the timing belt and the injector hoses. Has been running good for a week or so since the belt change. One injector is leaking a tiny bit from the connector hose and my mechanic tells me its a problem with the return line and too much pressure. Related? Also of note is it has a "pooh" after-market fuel filter (came with the van!). I'm still a rookie, so maybe I'm missing something obvious?
Thanks for any insight...

I don't normally delve into the dirty world of D****l but even I know that if there's a leak there's air and if there's air it causes trouble and if it's got a pooh after market filter replace it with a quality one.

Fuel filter defiantly and while you are at it fit a non return valve in the line between filter and pump.

Hmmmm, fuel cut-off valve loosing it's feed?
The wrong fuel cap fitted?
Air leak in the fuel system, drawing in air?
Ignition switch fault
Blocked air filter
Blocked exhaust
