Reverse Light Wiring

Post by darrell »

Hi folks,
I've searched before posting but not seen the answer yet.
My reverse light didn't work when I bought the van. Been through 2 mot's and no probs but a touch dangerous parallel parking when peeps behind don't know what I'm doing, same in busy carparks with cars and poeple around me not sure what I'm going to do next. Also, you don't get let out of a space so easily as when your reverse lights are on.

Anyway, enough jibba jabba, here's a phot of my vans reverse switch. oiled up ready for taking out but where's the wires? I have one grey cable coming out just under the back of the rearseat with 2 cables inside just hanging down... is that the wiring for the light? I read elsewhere there should be 3 wires. THe hangling wire is in the bckground going from left to right with a blackish end where I removed some tape to have a look at what was there.

Can anyone tell me where the wiring for the switch come from or goes to so i can locate it and reconnect it.

thanks

There should be two wires to the switch..... black/grey and a black/blue .... the black/blue goes to the lights and the black/grey goes to the fuse

All this is in the Haynes...

Last night I was doing some pre MOT checks only to find my reverse light not working

I was not able to locate my Haynes manual last night and did not have the time to investigate further.

Hopefully I will get a half an hour at lunch to go down to the rear light cluster with a multi-meter for an initial invest.

I am guessing that I should find 12v at one of the contacts and a path to earth on the other via the gearbox switch? Is my guess correct? Or have I got it all wrong.

You never know I might be lucky, and find a blown bulb.....Yeh right!

Cheers

Steve
