1.6TD Alternator belt replacement

Post by Andyrt »

First of all, sorry if this a perpetual question, but I have trawled the internet for an answer, but not found anything.

My California t25 has the power steering system, so I need to remove that belt to replace the alternator belt. I have looked at it all, using a torch and all my brain power, but the answer is not coming to me.

I'm now going slowly insane

Sorry, how very rude of me.

I have coveted a camper for too many years, and finally bought Bob, a White(ish)westy pop top.

Hello! I doubt I'll ever sell him!

The belt pulley is in two halves so you need to unbolt it, not sure about the power steering though as I have never had it.

Well, by slackening off all the bolts that apparently have something to do with holding the power steering pump in place I got some play. Don't know why! Anyway, just about managed to remove the second belt and replaced the alternator belt. Replaced the regulator, which was well worn, and now my rev needle doesn't wobble in the slightest, and the dash lights are brighter, and not even a flicker coming from the red battery light. fixed! :D

Cost £15 (plus swearbox money) instead of £150 for new to me alternator! Happy days :run :rollin

Now I bet that feels better than handing your credit card over the counter.... Well done :ok
From now on if you have any issues come here first have a poke around maybe ask a few questions, even if they sound stupid... ASK.

Being in tune with your van is very important and it very significantly reduces the breakdown percentages.
