Buddy seat legality
Hi all, I have a buddy seat - Wooden box with wooden back rest type screwed to floor behind the passenger seat, as many of us do .Previous owner had seatbelts fitted (to existing front seat mounting points) is it legal for someone to travel on a wooden box?
Re: Buddy seat legality
Ask yourself if you would like to be sitting on a wooden box in an accident?
Re: Buddy seat legality
No I wouldn't, but my Mum who sometimes comes camping with my mrs and kids doesn't seem to care about that(we have talked about the issues) and sees it as a way of taking one vehicle on holiday not two. I told her I don't even know if the thing is legal. In terms of saftey a. we are never going to be going that fast are we
2.you are rear facing with a 'proper' seat behind you. does anyone else use their buddy seat as a travelling seat??

Re: Buddy seat legality
The buddy seat is screwed down into the floor but not bolted down through the metal floorpan. Maybe in the even of a crash I should be more worried about the flying fridge

Yep, is be worried about flying objects. Seat belt wise, if its registered as a motorhome there is no legal requirement for belts in the back
Time is a drug. Too much of it kills you
Re: Buddy seat legality
Your Mum can sit there if she wants. She will only kill herself and the front seat passenger in a big accident thus solving your overcrowding issue

Surely, if you have the correct seatbelt fittings it won't matter what is sat on. It is the seatbelts that take the force of any accident?
