T25 DJ 2.1 Conversion

Post by bootstrap »

Hello my first post I have been watching from the sidelines for a while though incognito

I have just fitted a DJ 2.1 into my T25 campervan, system says Digijet, been fairly ok so far but I have a few questions if anyone can help me.

As my van is a1985 and the engine wiring seems to be from the later models there are a few inconsistancies that have me scratching my head, it runs and starts from cold, well it did last night when it warmed up got very uneven, sensors?
Do these engines have an O2 sensor as the book sugests it might but there is not one, and also full throttle switch seems to be missing were these only fitted to certain models?

There was also a lot of air in the system think I have found that problem now, does air effect petrol injection same as diesels, sounds dumb but not much idea with petrol engine injection, worked on loads of diesels.

Electrics, there is an extra plug in the connection box on rear of engine bulkhead, I sussed most of the wires as they were the same colours but stuck with a yellow wire (thinking oil pressure switch? 9 bar why 2 switches ?) does it connect to a different colour on earler models , green one .. not a clue  & the pink and black stripe from fuel pump relay but where it goes to is not clear.
Just under the coil poking out from the main loom to Digijet box is a Brown wire that is +ve 12v and a wire with green and white stripe that goes to the big double relay / control box Idle control? does this need to connected to coil or similar for when ignition is switched on to power relay box? Anyone know?

I've got a Haynes manual, the wiring diagrams are pants, just bought a proper VW one of Ebay but only just a hour or so ago!!
Checked online manuals there always seems little inconsistencies that confuse even further..lol

Any help very much appreciated

DJ doesn't have lamda only the MV running digifant. Whih book do you have? Bentley only covers American models of which the digijet is not one. Full throttle switch is fitted to all of them.
If air is coming through fuel feed then yes that would affect the mixture and it would run rough until sorted.
sorry I cant help you with the wiring questions but the oil sensor with 2 switches may be beacuse there is an idle speed oil pressure warning and a high revs warning search on the wiki for DOPWS

Cheers .. that is a couple of points cleared up and so I need a full throttle switch for sure then.

Still getting air in :( tried to figure out where some of the wires went through the Haynes book but to no avail .
Book I bought is a proper VW service book

air in the fuel isnt good for the pump.. injected fuel tanks have a bigger outlet.. and a swirl pot in the tank..

DJ doesnt have lambda

Throttle switch needed.. and set very carefully..

Haynes has early and late wiring diagrams to figure out whats what.. dont assume they are the same..

ECU needs to see good signals from the temp sensors..

Of course, you could just used the DG (i'll presume thats what it was originally) carb and manifold so avoiding the old injection system issues.. works ecxceedingly well..

I had been told about the bigger outlet but to be honest the ammount of fuel that is pumped out would run a V8 twice the size !!!!

However having said that I will probably put a bigger outlet tank on if I can find one that is :(

It would be nice to get the injection working properly as it goes like stink compared with a carb engine even though it is running rubbish still.

I had a look earlier there is an electrical contraption underneath the throttle linkage, like under the air intake itself not on top attached to the linkage as in the pics it appears to be a quite small thing with 2 connectors is it really essential ? Set carefully? any pointers be gratefully received.
Any ideas where to get one?
Cheers for the help guys

Hi Bruce does the lamba by chance have a brown wire feeding it just below the coil?
