can anyone solve a mystery

Post by leo8 »

Idle stabilizer unit not working, on T25 camper van.

To test out this fact a person with the same camper van (T25 fuel injection, water cooled 1991) took the idle stabilizer unit out of his, and put it in mine, it did not work in my van, van just backfired and rattled and rolled.

My blown idle stabilizer unit was put in his van, it did not work

The garage chap, shorted our van out and made it a complete open circuit, bypassing the ECU, and it ran perfectly.

They put the idle stabilizer taken from this chaps van, back in his camper van and his van ran perfectly once again.

Something else must have blown apart from the idle stabilizer unit perhaps in the ECU???

Does anyone have any ideas, or similar experience. ??

Are you talking about the chip on a heat sink that's on the left hand side of the engine bay? That is the ignition control module with a rectangular booted connection. If this is faulty the usual problem is van cuts out while warm getting progressively worse. the idle stabiliser has two plugs going into it which can be disconnected and connected together the van will run fine like this it is only to smooth out the idle, but if the stabiliser is faulty you can have running problems while connected. You cannot run a 2.1 with the ECU bypassed (unless you run lpg!) it is fundamental to the fueling of the vehicle without it it wont run full stop. you can unplug the ECU for 30 secs and replug for it to reset. Do you have a lamda probe on the exhaust? Then you have a MV rather than a DJ code engine. this has more feed back to the ECU as to emissions so it is slightly less dumb than the DJ. The lamdas are known to go bad easily and need replaceing with a quality replacement. Brickwerks should be able to sort you out. maybe it way the lamda probe that the garage bypassed somehow?
