Belt screeching.

Post by kit »

The belts on my 1y are new and tight but every time I start up even when hot I get a bit of squeal, the water pump is new ish as well. I once was told that when the alternator is under load it creates more resistance and I am wondering if that might be the cause, anyone have any ideas?

Highly polished pulley wheels can also induce slip as can some brands of belt.

Temporariliy - can be. Used similar on a bug once but changing belt type cured it long term - that and roughing up pulley wheel etc.

OK the belt dressing was a disaster, stopped the screeching but threw the belt causing overheating ( couldn't get off the dual carriageway) and a call out to the RAC who after 2 hours of searching and trial and error finally got the right belt fitted, Covkid you were bang on the money but you did not say just how temporary it would be :rofl
